i love coffee...

that's why I, Daria Barkman, started roasting coffee, to achieve that life giving beverage that millions enjoy each morning. my sonofresco roaster blows hot air to heat the beans to the perfect temperatures to give the coffee beans their maximum flavour. this process of roasting is said to produce extremely smooth coffee. the coffee is packaged and ready for purchase. all of this takes place in the upstairs of my dad's agricultural mechanic shop, River Road Repair. Hence the name, River Road Roastery. I love watching the green coffee beans bounce and swirl in the roasting chamber as they slowly fade into a rich brown colour. then the best part- pressing fresh grounds through the espresso machine to create the perfect shot.

how it all started...

more beans

Once upon a time, down on a small riverbank lived a houseful of girls leaving their father extremely outnumbered. But he loved them all, nonetheless. Now this family had one problem. To say that they consumed large amounts of coffee would be an understatement. They survived on it. But the specialty coffee that they ordered from afar, took awhile to ship and in the meantime, they would run out. Thus, it caused great panic. For this reason, they had a family meeting and decided to stop drinking coffee.

wait a second... As if they would EVER stop drinking coffee. No, they most definitely would not. But they did think it would be enjoyable to have fresh roasted coffee in the valley. So, they thought and they planned and they planned and they thought. Eventually everything came together. And that is how River Road Roastery came to be. It lies six miles west of Swan River, Manitoba, on the upper floor of the father’s agricultural mechanic’s shop. There the shriveled looking green beans are transformed into rich, brown, aromatic beans with the trusty air roaster.

As of August 8, 2023, I transferred the ownership to my cousin Ashley. She worked with me for about 2 years, so I'm confident my business is in good hands.
